Fall Family Photos
Some of my favorite family photos happen when we stop worrying about getting everyone to look at the camera.
For this fall family session, we wandered through the trees, played by the lake, threw leaves, blew bubbles, gave piggyback rides, and let the kids have some fun. We still made time for the classic family portraits (and photos of Mom and Dad together!), but so much of the magic came from everything that happened in between.
Family photos that feel like your family
My approach to family photography is a mix of gently directed portraits and letting real moments unfold.
I'll help with where to stand, what to do with your hands, and all of those little things that can make being in front of a camera feel awkward. But I'm also going to give your kids room to move, play and show me who they are.
Because years from now, I don't think you'll only want to remember what everyone looked like.
You'll want to remember the way your kids laughed together. How little they were when you picked them up. Their personalities. The missing teeth, wild curls, silly games, and the way they fit into your arms.
This particular session was photographed in Vancouver, Washington, but these wooded Pacific Northwest locations are exactly what I love about photographing families in and around Olympia, WA.
From towering evergreens and colorful fall leaves to beaches, trails and open spaces, the South Sound has so many beautiful options for family photos — and I'll help you choose a location that works for both the look you love and the personalities and ages of your kids.
You don't need perfectly behaved children or a family that knows what to do in front of the camera. Come ready to spend some time together, and we'll take it from there.
